Marketing Lure Study Finds Businesses Lose Customers to Writing Errors

New survey reveals that eight out of ten business professionals use writing to
evaluate and eliminate prospective companies

Downers Grove, IL, April 27, 2010 – Marketing Lure, a boutique agency that creates marketing
material for small, high tech companies, announces a new report that analyzes how writing errors
affect company revenue and reputation. Considered a wake-up call for businesses, “Exposing the
Link Between Writing and Sales” measures customers’ tolerance for errors based on the type of
error, marketing material, and medium used to communicate.

Of the 163 business professionals surveyed for this report, not one person was willing to
overlook writing errors all the time. More than half of the respondents confirmed that writing
errors raise red flags about the quality, intelligence, and work habits of a company. Fifty-seven
percent will dismiss a prospective company if a print brochure contains one writing error, and 94
percent acknowledged that writing errors on web sites shape their opinions. Only six respondents
said they barely notice writing errors.

Marketing Lure owner Sue Anderson-Lenz created the survey after noticing errors in books,
local newspapers, and on web sites. “What surprised me most about the survey is how many
people have used writing errors to make buying decisions. When prospects are in the early stages
of the buying cycle, they are looking for any reason to take you off their short list. Writing errors
give them a reason. Companies that do not scrutinize web content and marketing material are
literally throwing away good leads and damaging their reputation.”
